SendLink: Install SendLink's install and remove procedures are very simple and highly automated.
Install Procedure
Follow this procedure to install SendLink onto your computer. Upon completion, you will be
able to use SendLink in Evaluation Mode. In
order to use SendLink in Registered Mode, you
will have to Register for a license.
This installation procedure assumes that you have no current SendLink
installation on your computer. While there is no problem using this
procedure to re-install SendLink, some of the minor details of the procedure
might differ as the setup program responds to conditions that are not present
at initial installation time. Any personal data you might have from a prior
installation will be preserved after a re-installation.
You may need a password for the setup program. Any required password was emailed to you
when you submitted your Download Request to our website. If you
do not have a valid password, follow the Download Request
procedure to get another one.
To install SendLink onto your computer:
- Run the Setup Program.
Normally, the setup program is started directly from the Download Request email
you received from us when you press the Download button
contained in the email, then the Open button on the
File Download window. If you pressed the Save
button instead, you need to find where you saved the setup program using Windows
Explorer, then double-click on it.
Note: You may press the Cancel button at any time during
this procedure to exit the setup program without completing the installation. If you
would like to go back and change a previous response, press the Back
button.
- Acknowledge the Welcome Screen.
Just press the Next button to procceed.
- Accept the Software License Agreement.
The Software License Agreement contains the various terms and conditions under which
you may use SendLink. Please read the Agreement thoroughly and signify your acceptance
by selecting the I accept the agreement radio button.
When you do this, the Next button will become active.
Press the Next button.
- Enter the Password.
If a password is required for installation, this is where you will be prompted for
it. If you are not being prompted for a password at this time, continue on with the
next step of this procedure.
You were given a password in the Download Request email that we sent you. Enter it
here and press the Next button. You may find it easier
and less error-prone if you simply use the
Windows Clipboard to copy the password from the email and then paste it into the
password field.
Press the Next button.
- Confirm the Installation Folder.
This is the folder into which SendLink's program files will be installed.
This defaults to the C:\Program Files\SendLink installation folder.
There is really no need to change this and we recommend leaving the default
setting for simplicity.
If the installation folder does not exist, it will be created automatically
without further prompting.
If the installation folder exists, you will be asked if you want to install to
that folder anyway. Press Yes if you wish to use the
existing folder. Generally you will want to do that only if you are upgrading from
a prior version or re-installing SendLink. Press No if
you wish to change the installation folder.
Press the Next button.
- Confirm the Application Menu Folder.
This is the name of the folder into which SendLink's Application Menu will be placed.
This defaults to the SendLink folder, which will be placed at the top
level of the Programs folder of your Windows Start Menu. There is no
reason to change the default name, but you may wish to change the folder that
SendLink's Application Menu will reside in to better organize your Start Menu.
The easiest way to change the folder is to use the Browse...
button to open the Browse For Folder window.
Press the Next button.
- Choose Additional Shortcuts
This step allows you to choose additional locations for SendLink shortcuts to
be created.
If you check the Add to Startup Folder option,
a SendLink shortcut is placed in the Windows Startup Folder. This is a special
folder that causes Windows to automatically launch the programs contained
within it when you login to Windows. This is the simplest way to use SendLink
since it will always be there for you to use to create links,
and for remote users to
download files from the SendLink File Server.
This is the recommended configuration and is checked by default unless you are
re-installing SendLink.
If you check the Create a Quick Launch Icon option,
a SendLink shortcut is placed on the Windows Quick Launch Tool Bar, which is
part of the Windows Task Bar. This
allows you to run SendLink by single-clicking on the shortcut on the toolbar.
This option is off by default. If you are not going to run SendLink from the
Startup Folder, then you should turn this option on.
If you check the Create a Desktop Icon option,
a SendLink shortcut is placed on the Windows Desktop. This allows you to launch
SendLink by double-clicking on the shortcut directly from the Desktop, or from
the Windows Explorer when you are viewing the contents of the Desktop folder.
We find Desktop shortcuts to be the most difficult to get at, and don't have
much use for them. But if you are partial to them, the option is here for you.
Press the Next button.
- Ready to Install
You are now ready to complete the installation. Review the options you have selected.
If they are correct...
Press the Install button to proceed.
- Finish
You are now done with the installation procedure.
Leave the Launch SendLink option checked if you want to
run SendLink immediately upon exiting the setup program.
Press the Finish button to exit the setup program.
Remove Procedure
Follow this procedure to remove SendLink from your computer. Upon completion, you will
need to reinstall SendLink if you wish to use it again.
This removal procedure assumes that you currently have SendLink installed on your computer.
To remove SendLink from your computer:
- Exit SendLink if it is currently running.
To determine if SendLink is currently running, check to see if its application
icon is in the Windows System Tray.
If it is you will need to shut it down before removing it. You do this via the
Exit command of the Tray
Menu.
- Start the uninstall program.
To start the uninstall program, choose the Uninstall SendLink
command from the Windows Start Menu.
When SendLink was installed, a SendLink folder was created on your Windows
Start Menu. (You had the option of renaming that folder, so it could be called
something else or located somewhere else if you changed the default.) When you click
on that Start Menu folder, you will see an Uninstall SendLink command there.
- Confirm the removal.
You will now see a SendLink Uninstall window asking you if you
want to proceed with the removal.
- If you are sure you want to remove SendLink from your computer, press the
Yes button.
- If you press the No button, the uninstall program
is aborted and SendLink is left as it was.
- Confirm the completion.
Next, you should see another SendLink Uninstall window
informing you of the successful removal of SendLink from your system. Press the
OK button.
- Clean up personal data.
This removal procedure will not automatically delete any of your personal data
for SendLink. This is on purpose and allows you to reinstall SendLink at a later date
without losing your data. If you wish to permanently delete all your personal data
associated with SendLink, manually delete the C:\Program Files\SendLink
folder using Windows Explorer.
If you changed the default installation folder, make sure you delete the
correct one.
