SendLink: Password Window

The Password Window is a dialog box that you may use to view, modify or clear passwords.

The Password Window is accessible via the Main Window / Link List / Password Command.

Password Window

Password Field

The Password Field is where you may view and/or modify the password property of one or more selected links.

When the Password Window first opens, the supplied default value is displayed in the Password Field. If there is no default, the Password Field will be empty. This default value is taken from the password property, if any, of the link that has the input focus at the time Password Window is opened.

To enter a new password or change an existing password, simply type it in. To erase an existing password, just clear the contents of the Password Field.

Note that passwords are case-sensitive and that any leading, embedded and trailing spaces are considered significant. In short, passwords must be entered by the remote user exactly the way they appear in the Password Field. This is imporant to remember when choosing passwords and when communicating their values to remote users. It is also important to keep the distinction in mind between a blank password and an empty one. A password consisting of one or more blanks is a valid password and will trigger an authentication request by SendLink to the remote user when they attempt to access the link. An empty password, on the other hand, is no password at all and allows remote users access without requiring authentication.

Commands

Below is an alphabetical list of the commands available from the Password Window.

Accept Command

This command closes the Password Window, accepting the current contents of the Password Field as the password property for the selected links. If the Password Field is empty, the password property of the selected links is removed.

This command is activated by clicking on the OK button, or by pressing the Enter key.

Cancel Command

This command closes the Password Window, discarding any changes you have made during this editing session. All password properties remain — defined or not — as they were before the Password Window was opened.

This command is activated by clicking on the Cancel button, or by pressing the Esc key.
