SendLink: Send LogThe Send Log contains a history of all the files and folders that have been downloaded from your computer by remote users. The report is generated as an HTML file and displayed using your default web browser. Below is an explanation of the columns you will find in the Send Log. Click HERE to view an example Send Log in a separate browser window for your referernce while you read the explanations. The Send Log is viewed via the View Send Log item of the Main Window / Menu Bar / Server Menu. You may clear the Send Log by selecting the Clear Send Log item of the Server Menu. ColumnsConnection Established ColumnThis column contains a date/time stamp of when the connection with your computer was established. This value is stored in a universal time format and converted to local time when the report is created. Therefore, reported values will change if your time zone changes. Sent To ColumnThis column contains the socket address of the remote host that downloaded the file from your computer. Link Path ColumnThis column contains the leaf name of the file or folder on your computer which was downloaded by the remote host. To see the full path of the file or folder that was downloaded, float the cursor over the Link Path cell that you are interested in; the full path will appear in a hint window after a short delay. Send Size ColumnThis column contains the amount of data that was sent, in bytes. Duration ColumnThis column contains the total time, in seconds, that the session between your computer and the remote host was open. As noted in the report footer, this time includes whatever time the remote user spent entering the file name and confirming the save on their end. As a result, reported durations are likely to be longer and calculated data rates lower than actually experienced. Sometimes, the combination of a small send size and the speed of the SendLink host results in a reported duration of "0.000" seconds. This means that the entire data transfer, from start to finish, took place in less than one millisecond, which is the resolution of the timer used by SendLink. Data Rate ColumnThis column contains the calculated data transmission rate, in bytes per second. When the Duration Column shows "0.000", this column will show "-". This signifies that there is no meaningful data rate — the old divide-by-zero problem. Link Name ColumnThis column contains the Link Name (see Main Window / Link List) and is intended to help you distinguish between different links used to send the same file. The name stored here is the Link Name at the time the file was sent. Any changes to a Link Name after a file is sent will affect only subsequent records added to the Send Log. This allows you to retain or reuse the same links, while making note of some important change. For instance, if you update a file while a link is outstanding, you can make note of the new version by changing the Link Name with a version number, a timestamp, etc. This way you can easily determine the version of file downloaded by the remote user. |
