SendLink: Tray Window

While SendLink is running, you will see its current status icon displayed in the Windows System Tray. We call this SendLink's Tray Window.

There are various commands available from the Tray Window. You may activate these commands by selecting the corresponding item from the Tray Window's Right-Click Menu.

Double-clicking on the Tray Window activates the Main Command, which opens the Main Window and sets it as the active Windows application.

Status Icons

SendLink's various status icons are the only visual component of the Tray Window. The Tray Window will show one of these status icons whenever SendLink is running. Which one you see is determined by the state of the SendLink File Server. These status icons all feature SendLink's paper airplane logo. They are distinguished from one another by their background color.

Stopped Icon

Below is the Stopped Icon. It is distinguished from the other status icons by its red background.

You will see this icon whenever the SendLink File Server is in the stopped state. The File Server is briefly in the stopped state when SendLink first starts up. Thereafter, you may put it into the stopped state via the Stop Command.

When the File Server is stopped, remote users cannot download files or folders from you using SendLink, even if they have a valid link. If they attempt to do so while the File Server is stopped, they will get a Server Not Found error. When the File Server is stopped, it is as if SendLink is not running from the perspective of the remote user.

Idle Icon

Below is the Idle Icon. It is distinguished from the other status icons by its clear background, which allows the background of the Windows System Tray to show through, whatever it happens to be set to on your computer.

You will see this icon whenever the SendLink File Server in the started state, but not actively sending files to any remote users. The File Server is automatically put into the started state by SendLink as part of its initialization procedure. If you have subsequently stopped the File Server, you may put it back into the started state by using the Start Command.

When the File Server is idle, it is ready to accept connections from remote users. If they have a valid link when they connect, they will be able to download the associated file or folder from your computer.

Active Icon

Below is the Active Icon. It is distinguished from other status icons by its green background.

You will see this icon whenever the SendLink File Server is actively sending to one or more remote users. The File Server can only become active if it is in the started state. The File Server will never become active if it is in the stopped state.

The File Server will only accept a connection from a remote user if they have a valid link. If you have deleted a link, it is no longer considered valid and cannot result in an active connection. While the File Server is active, you can see which link is being used by a remote user by selecting any one of the sessions which appear in the Session List. The corresponding link will automatically be highlighted in the Link List.

There is only one menu available from the Tray Window — the Right-Click Menu.

Right-Click Menu

The Tray Menu is activated by right-clicking on SendLink's Tray Window.

You may select one of the menu items by right-clicking on it with the mouse. To dismiss the Tray Menu without making a selection, click on a separator line, such as the one between the About... and Exit items, then press the Esc key.
